FreeBMD is a collection of birth marriages and deaths taken from the GRO index. To search, scroll down the left side of the homepage. Click on the red search button. When you search for any entry, be it birth, marriage or death; enter the event type, birth, marriage or death, the surname, the first name and the date range, i.e., when you think the person was born, married or died. In the districts’ section click (all districts). In the counties’ section, if you do not know the county, click (all counties). Now click find.
BIRTH ENTRY: You may come across an entry such as (Halifax 9a 327). Clicking on the word Halifax will tell you which county it is in. Click close to exit the window.
MARRIAGE ENTRY: You may come across an entry such as (Middlesbrough 9d 859). Clicking on the word Middlesbrough will tell you which county it is in. Click close to exit the window then click the number 859. This will open another page showing a list of possible spouses listed on the same page in the GRO Index. One will be your relative’s spouse. Please note, spelling variations may occur between the information you have, and what is recorded on the site; so try typing in the wife's first name only and varying the spelling of the surname of the the husband. Click close to exit the window
DEATH ENTRY: You may come across an entry such as (35 Droxford 2c 129). The figure 35 refers to the person’s age at death. Clicking on Droxford will tell you which county it is in. Click close to exit the window

FreeREG: Is a collection of baptism, marriage and burial records from parish and non conformist registers in the UK. Scroll down the left side of the page and click search parish registers. Click search now. Click to choose the type of record. Enter a surname, a forename, the year of the event and the county. Click search. This will give you widest possible search for the entered data.

FreeCEN: Is a collection of census returns. To start a search scroll down the left side of the page and click search the database. Click on the drop down list to choose the census year and type in a surname: a first name: an age or birth year: choose the age or year range and choose the gender. For the census place, click (All Places). For the census county, click (All Places). For the birth county click (All Places). This will give you the widest possible search for the entered data.
